Bridal Altar
Since the discovery of the cave there
have been more than 450 weddings
held in the cave The first wedding was
Lester Howe's daughter, Elgiva to Hiram Dewey. This took place in an
area of the cave out near the natural entrance in 1854. Since 1929 weddings
have been held in the Bridal Altar. The heart was cut from a larger
piece of calcite found in the stream. It is five or six inches thick.
