The Hands of Tobacco

The Hands of Tobacco, hanging above the Balancing Rock, are two stalactites about ten thousand years old. One is active and still forming, the other inactive. There is usually a steady stream of water flowing from the bottom of the active stalactite. This water falls to the Balancing Rock below and is creating a flowstone deposit down along the Balancing Rock. It is possible to estimate the age of these two formations because they could not have begun to form until the Balancing Rock moved from its original position about ten thousand years ago.
