
July 23. 2008 FUND-RAISING EFFORTS AT HOWE CAVERNSHowe Caverns and its visitors raised $16,320 in 2007 to benefit a number of non-profit organizations in Schoharie County.“Working to aid non-profits in our community underscores an important part of our mission – to be a caring corporation,” said General Manager Robert Holt. “Indeed, we’re delighted with what was accomplished in 2007 to help Schoharie County organizations and thank all those who helped make these donations possible,” he said. During the largest fundraiser of the year, 25th Annual Halloween at Howe Caverns charity benefit, the great cave with a cause raised a total of $11,640 for Schoharie County ARC that serves individuals with differing disabilities. In the spring, employees at Howe Caverns raised $3,255 to benefit Marathon for a Better Life, an organization that aids cancer victims. Use of the on-site kennels at the Caverns realized $1,000 in donations from guests who donate to use the service for their pets. Both the Animal Shelter of the Schoharie Valley in Howes Cave and the Golden Heart Rescue in Gilboa received $500 each to assist with their work to shelter and assist stray animals. During its December Craft Fair, Howe Caverns raised $425 for the Rolphie Fund from the proceeds of pictures with Santa, a bake sale and a re-gifting table. The Rolphie Fund, established in memory of Rolph Karker, is a non-profit organization that helps children with economic needs throughout schools in Schoharie County. *** The second most-visited natural attraction in New York State, Howe Caverns is located off Exit 22 of I-88, between Albany and Cooperstown.
