Help Preserve Our Natural Wonder

For generations, we at Howe Caverns have considered visitor and employee enjoyment, safety and security, as well as the protection of our fragile underground environment, to be among our primary responsibilities.

For the protection of the cave and the well being of all those who come to enjoy this natural wonder, as well as those who will come in the future, we request your assistance.

Please secure the following items in your vehicle before you begin your cavern tour:

  • Backpacks and baby backpack carriers;
  • Large bags, including diaper bags, camera bags, and large purses;
  • Strollers and walkers.

(Please note: we can accommodate baby front carriers.)

THANK YOU for your cooperation and understanding as YOU help ensure that this natural wonder will survive for another 10 million years.

Strollers & Wheelchairs :

Because we're at Mother Nature's whim, we are unable to accommodate strollers or wheelchairs in the cave. We do, however, offer a complimentary courtesty tour which consists of an elevator ride into the Vestibule of the caverns, followed by a video in our Visitor Center.

Stay Warm:

The cavern stays at a cool 52°F year round. To maximize your enjoyment, plan ahead and bring a jacket or sweater.

Howe Caverns Above Ground Forecast:

Footwear:

At times, the cavern walkways are damp, and the tour does include stairs. For these reasons, it is strongly recommended that:

  • You avoid wearing high heeled shoes.
  • You avoid wearing hard soles.

Sneakers or hiking boots are the most appropriate footwear.

Restrooms:

There are no restrooms in the cavern. Encourage your children to use the above ground restrooms before they begin the 80 minute underground tour.
