Meet Andrés, Ocean, and Namya from Ecuador

Namya came to the United States when she was three years old. Andrés came to the United States only two years ago. They met on the street in Brooklyn. He was with a group of friends and she was with her friends. Andrés was so taken by her that he took the opportunity to introduce himself and give her his number. Later that week, she was getting ready to go out on a date but was stood up. She said, “I’m not letting myself get down about this and I put in the work to go out. I’m not letting this go to waste. I’m going out.” She called Andrés and he came over. They sat and talked for a bit but as they were getting ready to leave, he informed her that he had a curfew and he needed to go. The following day, she invited him to a family barbecue and they spent the day together getting to know each other. One month later, they decided to move in together. The following month they were engaged. The month after that, they got pregnant with Ocean. The month after that, they married. A few months later, Ocean was born. The hardest part of their relationship is being new parents and still learning about each other at the same time. They said, “There’s no perfect book on how to parent your child or how to love your person. We take each day one day at a time. We try to be as gracious as possible with each other. We’ve had a lot of life changes and we know because of that, there will be learning curves.” Namya’s favorite thing about Andrés is his gentleness and his patience. Andrés’ favorite thing about Namya is that she is incredibly loving and very happy. The one thing they want to tell the world is, “You don’t have to live your life for anyone else or by anyone else’s rules or standards. You get to define your own happiness and live your life by your own rule book. Live your life to be happy because life is too short not to be.” Andrés and Namya, congratulations on the start to your new family. Thank you for visiting!

“You have to take risks. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen.” (Paulo Coelho)
