Meet Joan & Ron from Lockport, New York.

They’ve been married 67 (yes,!!) years! Ron is 89 and Joan is 88. They were both born during the Great Depression. Ron was born and raised in West Virginia. When he was 22 years old, his uncle from Kentucky came to visit him. At the end of the visit, the uncle told Ron’s mother that he was taking him to New York to find work. Ron arrived in New York on a Sunday and started work the very next day at a canning factory, making $.99 an hour! Joan was born and raised in Lockport and was also working in a factory. One night on the way home from work, Ron stopped at the local pub. That is where he met the beautiful Joan. He immediately asked her out and then, he asked her to wait right where she was, until he went home to get cleaned up and came back. She did! They only dated for two weeks and then Ron asked her to marry him. Six weeks later, they were married. They went on to have five children, three boys and two girls, together. Sadly, one of their daughters passed away when she was only six months old from complications from pneumonia. Eventually, Ron’s & Joan’s jobs changed with the times. New factories moved into the area and the couple found new employment. Ron went on to work for Kodak for 25 years. Joan went on to work for a different film company. Their professional lives mirrored each other’s. When Betsy asked them what the secret was to making it through 67 years together, they said “To make it through life together, you have to have the utmost respect for each other. You must love without condition and learn to forgive each other. There will be hard days and disagreements but you have to rise above them.” When Betsy asked them what one of their favorite things to do together was, they said “We love to gamble and we’re good at it! Ron is always landing a jackpot somewhere.” At the end of the conversation, Betsy couldn’t help but wonder if Ron was just born lucky or if he was a master of manifesting. Betsy thinks that they are both great gamblers and manifesters! They took a gamble on each other and won the biggest jackpot of 67 wonderful years together! Howe awesome!
