Meet Laura from Belgium & Agustín from Spain

They have built a remarkable life together; one that celebrates resilience, love, and the power of believing in the impossible. Laura grew up in Belgium, with roots stretching to Norway through her mother. At eighteen years old, together with her twin sister, she embarked on a bold adventure. With no knowledge of English, and with a fierce determination to succeed, the two moved to the UK for college. They studied English eight hours a week. Laura said, “We chose the UK for its esteemed education system. Earning our master’s degrees in a language was not native to us was quite the challenge.” The sisters pursued their dreams despite the daunting challenge of studying in a language that wasn’t their own. Laura earned a master’s degree in business management, while her sister obtained hers in law. Their journey was not just about academics; it was about forging new friendships and embracing every opportunity to grow. Agustín’s path is equally as inspiring. Raised in Spain, he earned his master’s degree in civil engineering before pursuing further studies in business accounting and finance in the UK. It was in London, at Mastercard, where fate intertwined their lives—Laura’s first job after graduation and the place she met Agustín. Life’s unpredictability soon tested their bond. When Laura’s father was diagnosed with cancer, she returned to Belgium to care for him, pausing her career dreams. Her strength and dedication paid off as eight months later, her father entered into remission and Laura was able to then pursue her dream job as a United Nations diplomat. Her first assignment took her to Kenya, a land so distant and vibrant, it unfolded before her like a story yet to be told. Despite the distance and challenges, their love endured. Agustín split his time between the UK and Kenya, determined to support Laura’s ambitions. Finding work in Kenya wasn’t easy, but their commitment never wavered. They chose to make sacrifices for each other, proving that true love thrives on support and shared dreams. In a breathtaking moment that captured their adventurous spirits, Agustín proposed to Laura in August 2023—at a frozen waterfall in Iceland. Roses scattered across the ice set the scene. As the couple approached the falls, Laura noticed the roses and said, “It looks as though someone is about to propose. Should we leave?” The roses were a testament, a symbol of their journey marked by unexpected beauty and unwavering devotion. Now married, Laura and Agustín recently moved to Manhattan. Laura continues her vital work with the United Nations, while Agustín pursues his career in finance at Mastercard. Together, they have lived, loved, and grown across continents, inspiring those around them with their story. What makes their partnership extraordinary?
