Meet Meesha from Philadelphia, PA
Her journey is a testament to the power of following your arrow, embracing creativity, and seeking freedom through the arts. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Meesha’s passion for design and creation led her to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Tyler School of Art. The real journey began not in a classroom, but on the roads less traveled. After graduation, Meesha ventured beyond the confines of traditional education and immersed herself in the cultures of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico. There, she met artists from all walks of life, each with their own stories and techniques. She quickly grew intrigued by the lifestyle of traveling artists. The freedom of living, working, and creating while moving throughout the world became her life. In Guatemala, she began street vending. Armed with a strong foundation in drawing, she taught herself how to create caricatures and portraits, using the faces of her fellow travelers as subjects. Her work was met with enthusiasm, and soon she found herself honing her craft, earning money, and exploring the world. This was just the beginning of her transformation. In 2006, Meesha took her street vending skills to Rome, Italy, where she met a talented street artist from Mexico. He introduced her to the world of jewelry-making—teaching her the basics of using pliers, creating earring hooks, and reimagining objects from local markets into wearable art. This new medium ignited her creative spirit, and her jewelry quickly became a sensation on the streets of Rome. Slowly but surely, jewelry took over her creative practice, and she became known as a skilled metals artist. Returning to Philadelphia in 2008, she brought her street vending business back home. Her art was met with even greater appreciation. It was here that she crossed paths with a renowned German jewelry artist. His mentorship—five years of one-on-one lessons in silversmithing, stone setting, and lapidary—refined her craft and expanded her understanding of metals. His teachings deepened her connection to jewelry-making, and their friendship grew into a lifelong bond. Meesha’s artistic journey didn’t stop at jewelry. Under the guidance of a mechanical engineer and sculptor from Philadelphia, she learned 2D and 3D software skills, which opened new doors for her artistic exploration. With access to cutting-edge technology at she was able to push the boundaries of her sculptural work, combining traditional hand-crafted techniques with modern innovations. She began selling her art across various U.S. cities, from San Francisco to New Orleans, and continued to travel, letting her materials guide her creative process. In 2020, she took a bold step towards her lifelong dream of natural building and permaculture. She left Philadelphia and moved to the Finger Lakes region with her lifelong partner. They purchased raw land and began building structures made of cob, straw, and clay harvested from a nearby river. Her love for working with natural materials has blossomed as she is crafting spaces and objects that feel deeply connected to the earth. As she puts it, “My inspiration comes directly from the materials. I strive to work in harmony with these elements in order to expose the nature within them.” Today, Meesha’s work spans a wide array of techniques—from old-world hand fabrication to cutting-edge technology. She continues to draw inspiration from the materials she works with: metal, crystals, wood, and minerals. With each piece she creates, she strives to capture the essence of the material, creating a sense of peace and harmony that resonates with the observer. Through her art, she embodies the freedom and fulfillment she sought all those years ago—living a life of creation, connection, and transformation. The one thing she wants to tell the world is, “Hold a strong to your spirit and fight for what is right for you. Even when all the odds are against you. Stay the course. It will bring great rewards of happiness and spiritual fulfillment. If you live to satisfy others perceptions of your life, you will forever live in disharmony. If you stand by what you believe in, you are going bring harmony to yourself and those around you.” Howe inspiring! Thank you so much for visiting!
