Meet Al, Bob, and Rob

Meet Al from Rhode Island, Bob from Idaho, and Rob from Ohio—three friends brought together by a shared love for the open road and the Winnebago View/Navion. They are members of a vibrant Facebook group with over 17,000 enthusiasts who live for the freedom and adventure of RV travel. Through this community, they’ve forged deep friendships, shared countless stories, and often meet up across the country. Their latest stop? Howe Caverns and then off to a gathering of 20 RVs and friends at Al’s home in Rhode Island. Through their thriving Facebook community they are all bonded by their love for one specific motorhome: the Winnebago View/Navion. What started as a space for sharing tips and photos has grown into a deeply connected group of adventurers who collaborate online and often meet up in real life. This week, that meeting is taking place at Al’s home in Rhode Island. The are gathering for a celebration of community, travel, and friendship. Each member brings a unique story, but today we had the honor of sitting down with this inspiring trio. Al, a two-time retiree, built his career as an entrepreneur. He first owned a window business and later, alongside his brother, owned all of the Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchises in New Mexico. After stepping away from the business world, Al turned his sights to the outdoors. “I’ve always loved camping,” he said. “But these days, I can’t really sleep in a tent comfortably anymore.” That’s when he discovered the View/Navion—a compact, luxury Class C motorhome built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, known for its smooth ride, fuel efficiency, and cleverly designed living space. Now, Al travels with his Bernese Mountain Dog, Heidi, embracing the kind of freedom he once only had time to imagine. Bob, along with his wife Kathy, brings a lifetime of adventure to the road. His love for the outdoors was sparked as a child on family camping trips to Yellowstone, and it never left him. “There’s so much of the world to see,” he said. “Why sit at home when you can be out adventuring?” Over their 37 years of marriage, Bob and Kathy have driven their RV from New Orleans to Washington D.C., through New York City and into the boondocks of back woods country. They’ve traveled across Canada and even made it to the Arctic Circle. This marks their seventh trip across the U.S. in their RV. Bob, a licensed pilot, has even designed their current journey to end at Oshkosh in July, home to the world’s largest aviation event. With their dogs, Tucker and Bogey, in tow the couple lives with intention, taking in every mile like it’s the first. Then there’s Rob, a retired officer from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. After decades of public service, Rob chose to trade in his badge for a life on the road with his wife Leanne, his partner of 38 years, and their 15-year-old toy poodle. “When I retired, I decided life would be better spent traveling the country and seeing the world,” he said. Rob’s kindness and creativity are evident in every mile he drives—he brought custom cowboy hats for Al and Bob, a symbol of the deep friendship they’ve formed through this journey. For Rob, this lifestyle isn’t about escaping—it’s about embracing everything life still has to offer. Across this tight-knit group, one theme shines: adventure is best when shared. Whether traveling with partners, pets, or old friends, the road becomes more meaningful when experienced together. The View/Navion, with its modern design, comfortable amenities, and sense of possibility, serves as the perfect home base for their travels. And while each story is unique, they all echo the same truth. “Life is short,” they say. “Find the time to slow down, spend time with people you enjoy, relax, and enjoy the ride.” Thank you so much for visiting!
