Cara and Pete from New York
Winter 2024-25

Meet Cara and Pete from New York

They have known each other for 45 years and are high school sweethearts. After high school, they went their separate ways and didn’t see each other for 30 years. Cara maintained her friendship, beyond high school, with Pete’s sister. Twenty years ago, they reunited and have been together ever since. They are now both retired. Pete spent his career days as a New York State bridge painter. He worked in every kind of weather. Cara was a party and event planner. She says the best event that she ever planned was her own wedding. They love to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Getting away is tough for them. They said, “Leaving our kids and grandchildren behind to go out and enjoy our time as a couple is hard. We get a parental guilt.” They had plans this winter to travel to Mexico. They said that’s where they were supposed to be today when they visited. Unfortunately, Mexico is currently experiencing a seaweed infestation so, they decided to stay in snowy New York. Cara’s favorite thing about Pete is that he’s super easy to get along with. He loves to have a good time and he’s always down for enjoying life. Pete jokingly said his favorite thing about Cara is that she’s a cheap date. For their honeymoon, they stayed at a friend’s house and they just frequented the local gas station to grab snacks or a bite to eat. They said “We’re a pretty simple couple. We don’t need a lot to make us happy.” The one thing they want to tell the world is, “Nothing is out of your reach. The days are long and the years are short, so have a good time while you’re here!” Thank you so much for visiting!
