Meet Cora from Fort Meyers, Florida
She’s an avid horseback rider and loves farms. Her horse’s name is Peter Pan! She says farms and spending time with animals is where she feels most at peace. Cora has a rare condition called Alopecia (hair loss). Only about 2% of the population is affected. Cora says it’s a challenge being different. She wishes that people didn’t see her Alopecia before that they saw that she’s just a happy young lady. She often has to explain to people that she does not have cancer and that she is not a boy. She says it’s important that we educate ourselves about how to respectfully approach those that may look different. She said it’s really okay to ask thoughtful questions. In fact, she would prefer people to ask questions rather than stare at her. When people stare it makes her feel uncomfortable. Cora acknowledges that although staring is a normal human behavior, often propelled by curiosity, it would be so much nicer to approach, genuinely connect with someone, listen to their story, and learn.
It was Cora’s 11th Birthday yesterday!
