Johan and Evelyn from Norway

Meet Johan and Evelyn from Norway

They traveled all the way from Norway to meet with their motorcycle club and enjoy a leisurely ten day holiday. They both grew up on the west coast of Norway, along the North Sea, where it is customary to be part of a maritime household. Johan is now retired, but at one time, he worked as a skilled sea captain on multiple vessels. He has been the captain of oil tankers, ferries, and tugs. He has served in the Norwegian military doing maritime research. He is a commercial diver and used to own his own commercial diving company. Evelyn said that a maritime lifestyle is just as hard on women as it on men. It takes strong, independent, self-sufficient women to maintain households, families, and jobs on shore while husbands are at sea. She joked that everyone looks at Johan and thinks that he’s the stronger one in the relationship but Johan agreed that Evelyn is a force to be reckoned with. This adorable couple met in high school on holiday. They dated for the length of that holiday (exactly one week!) and never saw each other again. They each went on to build their own individual lives. When they were in their 40s, Evelyn decided to find Johan. The moment they saw each other again, they knew that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together, and they have! Evelyn said that throughout all of their travels together, the one thing that has stood out to them is the the local signs, that they saw here, that say, “No Place for Hate”. Several local schools recently participated in the virtual “No Place for Hate Back-to-School Kickoff” program. They really loved that sentiment and idea. The piece of advice that Johan & Evelyn could offer the world is: “Den som intet våger, intet vinner” – “He who dares nothing, gains nothing” Thank you so much for visiting!
