Meet John from Rochester, New York

Rochester is the birthplace of Kodak film, once a booming industry before technology came into play. It was also the home of Susan B. Anthony, an activist and pioneer for the women’s suffrage movement. Her work paved the way for the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote!

John spent a good portion of his life as a school teacher. At age 42, he decided to change careers and to become a nurse. This was no easy feat for him. While working full-time, he attended college on the weekends until he obtained his degree and license. Out of a class of 27 students, there were only seven men. Nursing is a female dominated industry here in the United States and approximately only 12% of nurses and nurse practitioners are men. He originally thought that he would like pediatric nursing but later found that it was too difficult for him to see children suffering. He currently works with terminally ill patients in hospice. While this is also incredibly challenging work, he finds it fulfilling; watching life come full-circle is very beautiful and a gift. He said, “Nursing is an art & a science. To be good in medicine, you have to do one thing very well, and that is to listen. In life, it is so important to do your very best to be compassionate, calm, patient and kind.” Thank you for visiting, and Good Lord, John, your mustache is FABULOUS!!!
