Meet Joyce from Long Island, NY

She and her family also own a home in Summit, New York, where she hopes to retire one day. Her grandparents lived a similar life, splitting time between urban and rural settings. She said, “My grandparents owned two homes, one in Long Island, and one in Hillsdale, Columbia County. The Hillsdale home was a farm. My grandfather owned a meet packing plant. He was a wholesaler and delivered to a lot of restaurants. My grandmother did all the books for the business and she was also a housewife.” We were honored that Joyce stopped in for a visit and shared the beautiful story of her grandparents and their love for Howe Caverns with Betsy. In her hands, she is holding her grandparents 50th wedding anniversary invitation which is dated June 29th, 1941. Almost, one year later, to the day, the couple purchased their Howe Caverns Club membership cards. Joyce believes that they came to celebrate their one year anniversary during the 100th year of the discovery of the cave. HOWE amazing! She said, “My grandparents just loved everything about the country and nature. I’m not surprised that they chose to celebrate their anniversary by purchasing a Howe Caverns membership and visiting the cave.” Thank you so much, Joyce, for visiting and for donating these beautiful momentos to our historical archives They will be forever appreciated and cherished!
