Meet Kelly and Javier, from New Jersey

Meet Kelly and Javier, a father-daughter duo from New Jersey but their life story began in Peru When she was just 10 years old, her family made the move to the United States. Her father came first to start building a life here, while her mom stayed behind in Peru, pregnant with Kelly’s younger sister. Kelly and her sister spent much of their early childhood growing up separately while their family worked to reunite in the United States, so each of them was raised almost like an only child. When their mother and sister finally joined them in New Jersey, adjusting to life together wasn’t always easy. Over time, however, they adapted and grew into the close-knit family they are today.

This was Kelly and Javier’s very first visit to Howe and they told us it completely exceeded their expectations! Some of the highlights for them were the boat ride through the cave and the famous Winding Way. For Kelly, the Bridal Altar was especially memorable. Although she says she wouldn’t personally choose to get married inside a cave, she admires couples who do. She also shared that she isn’t a fan of hiking, so she really enjoyed that exploring the cave felt more like a pleasant walk than a difficult trek. She loved how easy and accessible the tour was, especially compared to the more extreme ways people sometimes explore caves. She still applauds those who take on those great adventures!

When she’s not traveling or trying something new, Kelly loves getting lost in a good book and spending quality time with her family.

Kelly shared a simple piece of advice that she tries to live by: don’t be afraid to do the things you’re interested in because you only live once! Thank you so much for visiting!
