Meet Olivia & McKenna from Connecticut & Vermont.
Meet Olivia and McKenna from Connecticut and Vermont. These two friends are currently studying history at a university in Vermont and share a love of learning and exploring new places. With spring break underway, they decided that Howe Caverns would be the perfect adventure. After all, what better way to spend part of your break than exploring a cave? This was their first time visiting Howe Caverns, and their first time in any cave at all, so every step of the tour felt like a new discovery. One of their favorite moments was the boat ride, especially when the lights were turned off and they experienced total darkness. They were also amazed walking through the S-turns of Winding Way, admiring how millions of years of flowing water carefully carved the rock.
Olivia joked that McKenna spent the entire walk talking about the 88,000 bricks beneath their feet on the walkways, which led to plenty of laughs along the way. As history majors, they were especially fascinated by the cave’s past, from when Lester Howe owned it and chipped pieces from the Pipe Organ as souvenirs to how the caverns are preserved and cared for today. They both said the tour is enjoyable for visitors of all ages thanks to its engaging mix of humor, storytelling, and history. They also couldn’t help but imagine how lively the cave must get when large groups of students visit on field trips.
Another moment that stood out to them was when their tour guide, Anthony, took his jacket off right before the boat ride. At first they thought he was a little crazy, but once they returned to the dock, they quickly understood why! Since the boat is manually pushed through the cave, it takes quite a bit of training and effort to navigate it through the Lake of Venus.
When they’re not studying, Olivia and McKenna enjoy reading, swimming, and spending time together. Even with busy college schedules, they always make time for fun outings and small adventures, creating memories wherever they go. We’re so glad you chose to spend part of your spring break with us. Thank you so for visiting!
