Meet Rune, Charlotte, Karla, & Julius from Denmark!

Meet Rune, (father) Charlotte (mother), Karla (daughter), and Julius (son) from Denmark!

They live in Horsens which is 3,656 miles away from Howe Caverns! Charlotte and Rune met in a club on New Year’s Eve while they were ringing in 2001! They hit it off right straight away. In fact, they started 2001 off right because he called her the very next day saying that “he had a nightmare that he would never see her again.” and the rest is history! (Well done, Rune!

) Charlotte is a teacher and a researcher on the topic of “socially excluded people” (people with substance abuse issues going into welfare). Rune has been a police officer for 22 years!

Here are some fun facts about Denmark:

⁃ LEGO blocks originated in Billund, Denmark ⁃ Where they live is the highest point above sea level- being 560 ft. Denmark, is flat as a pancake.

⁃ They just got a new king, Frederik X, the new King of Denmark ascended to the throne in January of 2024 at 56 yrs. old.

⁃ Denmark is a parliamentary democracy with a monarchy.

⁃ The original Little Mermaid story, Den Lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid), was written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. The story is very different from Disney’s 1989 film adaptation.

This family has traveled to the U.S. before. They are staying in Albany and looked up fun things to do nearby and Howe Caverns popped up! Rune’s mother recently passed and it has been very difficult. She is very missed. As they continue to deal with that loss, they constantly remind themselves that family is so important and that as long as they have each other, everything will be okay.
