Meet Steve from Cobleskill, New York

Meet Steve from Cobleskill, New York. Steve’s connection to Howe began in the mid 1990s when he started working as a tour guide. He worked as a boatman, in the ticket office, and eventually became the motel manager and caretaker. He spent several years working at Howe Caverns before moving to Texas in the early 2000s.

Steve went on to become a professor and paleontologist at Midwestern State University. His work has taken him across the country, where he studies microscopic fossils and travels for fieldwork. He has visited almost every state, as well as countries including Spain, England and Canada. One of his favorite places to visit is Alamosa, Colorado, where he enjoys the mountains and Great Sand Dunes and tries to return at least once a year.

Today, Steve returned to Howe Caverns with his niece. While the property has evolved over time, his connection to this special place remains as strong as ever. From leading tours and working at the motel to now studying fossils, Steve’s journey has taken him in many new directions but Howe continues to be one of the places that sparked his curiosity and helped shape the path he followed. Thank you so much for visiting!
