Meet Marci and her son, Sam from Guilderland, NY

Meet Marci and her son, Sam from Guilderland, New York. Their visit to Howe was more than just a tour, it was an opportunity to reconnect with a meaningful piece of their family history. They took the time to share the story of Marci’s great uncle, Harrison Terk. Harrison spent decades at Howe Caverns, born in December of 1930, Harrison began his career at Howe Caverns as a young tour guide before working his way up to eventually serving as General Manager. In 1965, Harrison Terk was instrumental in the formation of the National Cave Association, hence making Howe Caverns one of its founding members. One of the lasting reminders of his years at Howe Caverns can still be found underground. During the creation of the man-made tunnel in 1972, Harrison was part of the crew whose initials were etched into the rock, leaving behind a small piece of the history he helped shape.

For Marci, bringing Sam to Howe Caverns was about more than visiting a cave, it was about sharing a family connection and showing the next generation a place where their family story is part of the larger story of Howe. We are always grateful when families return to share the connections that make this place special. Thank you so much for visiting!
