Meet Tamara and Brion from Spencerport, NY

Brion asked Tamara to marry him on November 12th. He said, “My original plan, was to propose to Tamara here at Howe Caverns on the calcite heart. I just couldn’t wait. I’m not getting any younger.” Brion is 80 years old and Tamara is 65! He’s a retired Rochester city police officer and says, “Iron Horses and civil service are in my blood.” Fun fact, John Wayne was Brion’s grandmother‘s brother‘s son! Brion grew up on and around motorcycles because his father owned a dealership. His years of civil service were all proudly served on a motorcycle. As he progressed in his career, he was offered a detective position which he declined because he couldn’t imagine leaving the streets or his motorcycle. Tamara is an auditor for the New York State comptroller. She attended college later in life. She wanted to wait until her children were old enough to get home alone safely after their school day. She graduated college at 41 as valedictorian. She has an accounting degree, is a licensed CPA, and certified fraud examiner! Tamara and Brion met at their local church a little over a year ago. Tamara is a widow of three years. Brion has spent the past seven years living alone. When they met, Brion knew he wanted more than just friendship. Tamara, on the other hand, strictly only wanted friendship as she was still healing from the loss of her husband. Brion agreed to keep the relationship strictly a friendship. They began spending time together. One evening while Brion was driving Tamara home, they got into a car accident. It was dark and the roads were wet. He took a corner too fast and the car veered off the road. Tamara was upset and shaken. She said, “In that moment, I no longer wanted to spend time with him. I perceived that he was careless in protecting me. That was also the night I fell in love with him. He became vulnerable that night and expressed how deeply he cared for me. I knew it was genuine.” The couple said, a good analogy for the way Brion feels about Tamara is the “I love you” scene from When Harry Met Sally. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” The one thing they want to tell the world is, “Life is in the small details. Make sure that you are present and paying attention. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable and enjoy the adventure, no matter how old you are!” Thank you for visiting!
