Meet the Rocks from Virginia
Lane (Mom) was born & raised in Texas. Doug (Dad) was born and raised in Long Island, New York. Lane was raised by a single mom. After graduating from high school, Lane attended a community college but she felt like it wasn’t a good fit. She enlisted in the Navy and served our country for 8 years. Shortly after her enlistment, she was deployed to Guantánamo Bay. She worked there for over a year. After Guantánamo, she was deployed to Africa to work on civil affairs. Currently, Doug is proudly serving his 29th year in the United States Navy! HOWE amazing! On their first date, they went to a sushi restaurant. Doug immediately knew that he wasn’t ready for the night to end. As their date was coming to a close, Lane expressed that she would enjoy some apple pie and ice cream. Doug took that opportunity to invite her to get dessert. They decided to take his ‘74 Corvette Stingray. He drove for a bit then pulled into a parking lot and got out. He asked Lane to drive his car the rest of the way. He wanted to impress her but she wasn’t having it. She said, “I am not driving your car on our first date.” At the end of the date, Lane knew it was a good first date. She looked at him and said, “I don’t know how this works.” She then turned and walked away but obviously, they figured it out since they have been together 15 years. Doug’s favorite thing about Lane is that she has a wonderful sense of humor! Lane’s favorite thing about Doug is that he is unstoppable. He is incredibly resilient and adaptable. Whenever he sets his mind to something, he will do whatever it takes to make it happen. They are spending Thanksgiving in the cabin that has been in Doug’s family for 40 years here in Upstate New York. It’s a disconnect, unwind, unplug, reconnect holiday for this family. There are no devices or television. They are finding things to do in nature, spending quality time, having conversations, and playing board games to fill their time together. The one thing they want to tell the world is, “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They ARE the most important work. Your kids are exactly what you put into them. Every ounce of investment is worth it!” Thank you for visiting, and thank you for your service.
May your Thanksgiving be blessed and hold memories that your children will carry with them for a lifetime
