Meet Tom, Lola, and their granddaughter, Kayle

Lola is from Mannheim, Germany and Tom has lived on every continent and in several states while serving in the Army. Tom & Lola have been married for 38 years after they “bumped into each other.” Tom spotted Lola while on bumper cars in Germany. In an attempt to get her attention, Tom stuck up his thumb and it worked! The friend that Lola was riding with got out of their car and let Tom get in. They have been together ever since! Bumper Cars were not the only time that Tom dealt with vehicles “bumping” into each other. While serving in the Army, Tom was in an accident when two tanks crashed into each other. He was in the hospital for about three months! He had to undergo a few surgeries and lost a lot of weight during that time. He joked that “it was a good diet plan but not recommended.” Tom and Lola love to travel and have visited over 400 castles in their lifetime! One funny memory they have is from the time they visited a palace in Korea. While climbing hundreds of stairs, they were passed by a 90 yr. old lady! Kayle is visiting her grandparents from Texas and has never been to a cave before so she wanted to visit Howe. Tom, however, has been to 13 other caves before Howe- even once having explored a cave, all by himself, in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Kaily asked them if they had anything special that they wanted to share with people. They said that years ago, they nearly lost their home and almost had to declare bankruptcy. They weathered that storm and said that when we go through life’s storms, it’s always important to remember that, “no matter how bad things get, things WILL get better” HOWE inspirational!
